Cynthia Mueller received her B.M. in Music Education from Ohio University, where her principal instrument was double-bass, and her minors were viola and composition. She also has an M.M. in Strings Pedagogy from The University of Michigan, where her principal instrument was again double-bass, and she minored in cello. Her principal teachers were Clyde Thompson and Larry Hurst (bass), Leighton Conkling (cello) and Howard Beebe (viola). She is retired from the San Antonio (TX) I.S.D., where she taught middle school and high school orchestra, and helped develop the orchestra curriculum for the district. She currently teaches privately at her home in Kingsport, at Milligan College, and at ETSU. In addition her teaching work, she has been performing, mainly on double-bass and viola, for over 40 years. She is principal bass in the Johnson City Symphony, and sometimes performs with Symphony of the Mountains. She has also performed in the San Antonio Symphony, The Texas Bach Choir, Victoria Symphony, Corpus Christi Symphony, and many other groups. Her other interests include Bible study and spending time with her husband, Larry, and their two dogs.
