Originally from Sevierville, TN, Jeffery Whaley is the Principal Horn of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. He also holds the principal horn chair in the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and Symphony of the Mountains in Kingsport, TN and is a founding member of the Pisgah Brass Quintet. Prior to his return to Tennessee, he held positions with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Wichita Grand Opera, and Wichita Brass Quintet. Jeffery has also appeared in solo performances, recitals, and on stage with various orchestras throughout the United States and Canada.
An active soloist and chamber musician, Jeffery takes great pleasure in championing the music of contemporary composers. He has been involved in various new commissions including works for Horn, Oboe, and Piano Trio: “Partita” by Dr. Gregory Danner and “A Dash of Color” by Dr. Maria Niederberger. The premiere recording of these works was released on Blue Griffin Records in Spring 2013. More recently Jeffery’s playing can be heard on various commercial recordings including video game soundtracks, collaborations with pop artists like Boys-II-Men and Steep Canyon Rangers, and on motion picture soundtracks including playing principal horn on Terrence Blanchard’s score to the 2019 film “Harriet."
