Stephanie March is currently principal cellist of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. She is a native of Sioux City, IA and holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Northwestern University. She has performed in the National Repertory Orchestra, New World Symphony, Omaha Symphony, as Associate Principal in the South Dakota Symphony and with the Dakota String Quartet. As soloist and chamber musician, she has been featured at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, LeMoyne Music Journeys Series, Piano Recital Series at Morningside College and the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music where she also taught. In 2007, she appeared as soloist with the Sioux City Symphony in the Beethoven Triple Concerto under the baton of Maestro Xian Zhang. She was featured again as soloist with the SCSO in 2016 as part of the orchestra’s centennial celebration. Her performances have been broadcast live on Iowa Public Television as well as Iowa and New York Public Radio.
An avid chamber musician, Ms. March has collaborated in ensembles with Grammy-nominated artists including James Ehnes, Paavali Jumppanen and Andrew Russo and has also worked with award winning composers George Tsontakis and Aaron Jay Kernis. In 2013, Ms. March was the National First Place Winner in the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist String Competition in Anaheim, California. She currently performs as part of a duo with SCSO principal bassist Chunyang Wang. Their duo, “Low Strings Attached,” was recently selected to present a recital at the 2021 Convention of the International Society of Bassists. Stephanie also performs in a trio with pianist Arthur Greene and violinist Solomia Soroka, as well as in a trio with clarinetist Parker Gaims and pianist Yi-Yang Chen.
Her principal teachers include Peter Howard (Principal, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra), Steven Doane (Eastman) and Hans Jørgen Jensen (Northwestern). Stephanie teaches cello privately and at Morningside College.
