Born in Taipei, Jia-Yu Yang is an engaging saxophonist of the younger generation of Taiwan. She holds both her Bachelor of Science degree and Music minor degree (2014) from Fu Jen Catholic University. Her primary instructors include Dr. Chih-Huan Wu, Prof. Wen-Chun Chang, and Prof. Chia-Hung Chang.
As an active performer, Jia-Yu was selected to play the solo part in the Picture at an Exhibition (The Old Castle) with UNCG Symphony Orchestra in 2016. Jia-Yu premiered Charles Rochester Young’s Alto saxophone Concerto with Fu Jen University Symphonic Band in Taiwan in 2018. She also played Jérôme Naulais’ Frission for Alto saxophone and wind ensemble with Fu Jen University Symphonic Band in 2014.
As a saxophone educator, Jia-Yu was the saxophone instructor at the Community Arts Collaborative Private Lessons Program in UNCG, the Elementary department of Taipei Fuhsing Private School, and Guang Hwa Elementary School.
Jia-Yu earned her Master’s degree in saxophone performance and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in music education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2017) where she studies with Dr. Steven Stusek. Jia-Yu earned her Performing Artist Certificate at Stephen F. Austin State University (2019), where she studies with Dr. Nathan Nabb.
Jia-Yu is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in saxophone performance and serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
