Children's Behavioral Health in Rural Primary Care

Department of Psychology

Family Check-Up

The Family Check-Up (FCU) is a behavioral parent training program designed for dissemination in community settings that aims to positively impact behavioral and health outcomes for young children and adolescents. FCU assesses the family's strengths and weaknesses, strengthens family motivation, and provides families with information about areas which they may work on in order to impact the behavioral and health concerns of the child. This invention teaches evidence-based strategies to parents in a way that is motivating, individualized, and brief.

Currently the lab is (1) implementing the FCU into a pediatric primary care setting, (2) evaluating the effectiveness of FCU in primary care, and (3) creating a model for interdisciplinary research training.
