Master of Social Work

Department of Social Work

The SSWA members of the Abingdon Cohort (at the Higher Education Center) participated in a food drive/tree decorating contes, these students showed great effort by bringing in lots of food items and hand-crafted ornaments with ETSU colors and social work enthusiasm. A special thank you to: Carrie Anderson, Danielle Butts, Makayla Chestnut, Elizabeth Gilmer, Courtney Miller, Brittney Spellar, and Dr. Rana Duncan-Daston! This would not have been possible without each of you!

In an effort to make our programming more accessible to the people of the region we share, we are pleased to offer the traditional MSW program in Abingdon, Virginia at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center beginning in the summer of 2017.  The traditional MSW program is designed for individuals seeking to pursue a career in social work without an undergraduate degree in social work.

The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) is conveniently located near Exit 14 off Interstate 81 in Abingdon, Virginia.  SVHEC is a state of the art facility with comfortable classrooms and nearby restaurants and cultural attractions.

This effort to provide easily accessible classroom instruction is combined with a select menu of online courses and every effort to provide field education (internship) opportunities in the immediate locales where students live or work. Off-site classes are typically taught by the same full- and part-time faculty who teach courses on the main ETSU campus in Johnson City, TN, with intended learning outcomes identical to program counterparts.

ETSU’s MSW Program is certified to operate by SCHEV.
