Dr. Larry R. White is a Professor of Finance in the Department of Economics and Finance at East Tennessee State University. He also serves as the Chair of Banking.
Dr. White was raised in Starkville, MS. After graduating from Starkville High School, he attended Mississippi State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. He was awarded an MBA in 1975 and a Ph.D. in 1985 from the University of Georgia.
Prior to entering academics, Dr. White served as a Naval Officer and Community Banker. He retired from the Navy Reserve following a career that took him all around the world. White held numerous command positions during that career. He was recalled to active duty during operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm to command a multinational task group charged with port recovery operations in Kuwait.
Before Dr. White’s employment at ETSU, he worked at Mississippi State University as a professor. During his career at MSU, he served as the Director of the Banking Excellence Program and the Chair of Real Estate. Professor White has taught at ETSU since 2007 and holds the Certified Treasury Professional Designation from the Association of Financial Professionals.
Currently, Dr. White teaches Business Finance, Banking and Financial Intermediation, Bank Policy, Essentials of Finance, and Applied Corporate Finance.
Over the years, Dr. White has been active in the Association of Treasury Professionals, the Financial Management Association, Southern Finance Association, Navy Reserve Association, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi.
Larry White resides here in Johnson City with his wife, Louise. They are the proud parents and grandparents of two grown children and six grandchildren. During his free time, Larry enjoys golf, tennis, and SEC sports. He also enjoys watching his grandchildren participate in school and sports activities.
