Online Training

About the activity:
For those seeking CME Credit: beginning January 5, 2018, learners successfully completing the online training may also claim a one-time Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit for the activity. East Tennessee State University (ETSU) and Medical Education Assistance Corporation (MEAC) personnel designated within ETSU academic departments and ETSU/MEAC clinics that access, create, receive, maintain or transmit individually identifiable health information are subject to the rules and requirements of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). 

Fees:
There is no charge for this training.  


Method of participation in the learning process:

Learners must view the two parts and complete the test questions throughout the training. A score of at least 80% correct must be achieved to obtain credit.

To receive CME credit, participants should:

  1. Register;
  2. review Part One and Part Two HIPAA training  in Nexus Trainer with a score of 80% or higher;
  3. complete the CME activity evaluation;
  4. provide the awarded certificate to the Office of CME to be obtain your CME Credit.
  5. for CME credit and transcript log in to your CME profile to print.

Course outline:
Part one: The Privacy Rule.
Part two: The Security Rule.

System requirements:
A computer that can connect to and play a YouTube video that runs an HTML 5 format. A wired Ethernet connection is suggested.

Target audience:
ETSU and MEAC staff who need to fulfill the annual HIPAA training requirement. 

Overall objectives:
  • List the major components of HIPAA Privacy and Security rules.

  • Describe how individual rights are protected under HIPAA.

  • Identify the HIPAA penalty and enforcement provisions.
