About this Conference:
Certain types of hereditary cancers increase a person's risk for developing cancer due to an inherited gene mutation. Haley Pace, MS, LCGC at Wellmont Cancer Institute will discuss American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC) staging in clinical cases of genetic risk assessment and State National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Treatment Guidelines used in genetic risk assessment. Ms. Pace will also explain prognostic indicators related to genetic testing and discuss the referral process and genetic testing techniques to include the following:

  1. Identifying individuals at risk for hereditary cancer through detailed family history
  2. Arranging genetic testing for at risk patients
  3. Providing counseling to patients and family members about specific genetic syndromes and risk of each family member
  4. Helping individuals derive meaning from their testing and counseling and empower them to make educated, decisions about cancer screening and prevention
