Patient Education

Our goal is to provide out patients with timely, up to date medical information through a family centered approach.

 Helpful sources of information include:

The parents corner of the AAP website which provides free medical information for families.  You can direct the families to this link or print out the information for them.  ( AAP website)

TIPPS (The Injury Prevention Program) has age appropriate safety information which is helpful as a supplement to your anticipatory guidance.  (TIPP website)

Parents also need current information on safety recalls.  This link to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission provides monthly recall information (Safety Recalls).

There are some parents in our practice who insist on mercury free vaccines, even though there is no causal link between mercury and developmental disorders. This link provides the manufacturers of mercury free immunizations. (Vaccine List)

What should you recommend after an athlete suffers a concussion?  (From Dr. Chastain's TMT)

View glasgow coma scale information (Glasgow Coma Scale). Also view the AAP guideline of management of closed head injury in children ( Management of Closed Head Injury). and the AAN guideline for management of concussions (Management of Concussions).  View a video about the dangers of concussion and access other materials on the CDC website (National Center for Injury Prevention and Control).
