Glenda Stockwell, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor and Clinical Psychologist
Glenda serves as Clinical Psychologist with the department's Kingsport residency program, ETSU Family Physicians of Kingsport. Dr. Stockwell completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audilogy, and her Master's Degree in Counseling. Dr. Stockwell completed her doctoral studies at Indiana State, receiving her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. While completing a Pre-Doctoral Psychology Internship at the Danville Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Glenda served as Assistant Professor on the faculty of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana.
After receipt of her doctoral degree, Dr. Stockwell returned to Saint Mary's, where she assumed the position of Chair of the Department of Psychology, Theology, and Philosophy, and served as Assistant Professor and Academic Advisor. Glenda left Saint-Mary's to maintain a private Psychologist practice in Terre Haute for eight years. While in private practice, Dr. Stockwell served as a member of the Adjunct Faculty for both the Counseling Psychology program at ISU, and the Humanities Department of the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, also in Terre Haute. Dr. Stockwell returned to full-time academic medicine in 1999 as Behavioral Science Coordinator for the Union Hospital Family Practice Residency Program, a position that entailed administrative, teaching, and consultation and clinical responsibilities, until joining the ETSU faculty. Dr. Stockwell's research interests include physician well-being, teaching empathy in residency, effective methods for establishing patient/doctor relationship and visual imagery in medical settings.
