Family Medicine

Peggy Sue Cavitt, MD, Assistant Professor and Associate Medical Director/Kingsport Center

Being from a military family, multicultural experiences and travel shaped my childhood. As an avid reader of science-fiction and historical accounts of bacteriologists, virologists, and early doctors, my pleasure in studying science and humanities sparked my fascination with medicine. I chose Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, where I studied biology and psychology. While there I explored human interactions of the past through history and renaissance reenacting as well. I then went on to the Medical College of Georgia where I discovered my love of the challenges of primary care. The unique blend of exemplary teaching faculty drew me to ETSU's Kingsport Family Medicine Residency and then attracted me to become a partner in the practice. My foci are behavioral medicine, translation of medical jargon for patients, biomedical ethics, and sexual health; however, I find that being the physician that any patient can visit when the inevitable unexpected and undifferentiated health puzzles arise are what keep primary care so very interesting.
