I was born in Richlands, VA and raised in Buchanan County, a coal mining area in Southwest Virginia. Growing up, my mother was a nurse, a nursing instructor, and eventually a Nurse Practitioner, and would often take me along to the hospital. I loved the hospital environment and envisioned becoming a physician at a young age. Most of my family members were coal miners, including my grandfather. He was instrumental in solidifying my desire to be a physician, as I watched him struggle with COPD from years of coal mining.

Upon graduation from high school, I attended the University of Virginia's College at Wise, and received a BS in Biology with a minor in Psychology. I followed my dream of becoming a physician to Blacksburg, Virginia, where I completed medical school at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. During my medical student rotations, I fell in love with each unique opportunity to provide patient care, and had a difficult time choosing a career path. It was this love of diversity, and patients of all ages and illnesses, that led me to a Family Medicine residency in East Tennessee. After completing my post-graduate training at ETSU Family Physicians of Kingsport, I found I could not put my love for my patients and teaching aside. I decided to join our Kingsport program as faculty, and am excited to be part of the future of Family Medicine through education.

I am most interested in being a "traditional Family Doctor," following my patients through outpatient as well as inpatient care, and caring for patients throughout their life. I have a special interest in Women's Health and OB/GYN. When I'm not working, I enjoy time with my husband and daughter, our families, and our two Cocker Spaniels. I love to read and run.
