Brief Bio

Stuart S. Leicht, MD is Professor of Internal Medicine and Chief of the Dermatology Division at East Tennessee State University's Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City. After attending medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where he graduated cum laude, Dr. Leicht completed two residencies: one in categorical medicine at the University of Virginia, and a combined residency in dermatology at Boston University and Tufts University. Dr. Leicht has been a faculty member of Quillen Colleges Department of Internal Medicine since 1984. Between 1984 and 1996, he simultaneously served as Section Chief for Dermatology at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee.

An experienced researcher, Dr. Leicht has authored or co-authored one book and more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has also served as a reviewer for several professional journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Pediatric Dermatology.

Dr. Leicht is a member of the Dermatology Foundation and the International Society of Dermatology, and a named a fellow of both the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Physicians.

His work as both a faculty member and a clinician at East Tennessee State University have been recognized with several awards, including Outstanding Attending Physician (presented by the Department of Family Practice), and the Internal Medicine Attending of the Year (presented by the Quillen College internal medicine residents. His training program received the Elective of the Year award five separate times (also presented by Quillen College internal medicine residents), and in 1994 Dr. Leicht was named the James H. Quillen Health Care Hero.

Dr. Leicht can often be seen throughout the communities of Johnson City providing free skin cancer screenings. His work was recognized in 1993 by the American Academy of Dermatology when he received its Community Service Award.
