We provide bone density scans using state-of-the-art equipment. We have three different
scan machines both for your convenience and for accuracy of comparison.
In our office, we offer both Lunar and Hologic scan machines (densitometers); this allows for a more accurate comparison to previous scans.
We also offer a mobile scan machine (Hologic) so patients can have scans in locations besides the VA Campus. We regularly offer scans at ETSU Physicians and Associates offices in Johnson City and Kingsport. We also offer screenings (scanning one hip) within the community for a small fee. Some example screening locations include:
- Mall Health Resource Center
- Churches and Other Places of Worship
- Corporate Offices
- College Campuses
- Retirement Communities
Unlike many other offices that scan only the spine and one hip, we scan 5 sites to attain a more thorough understanding of your bone health:
- Both hips
- Both wrists
We also routinely provide a Vertebral Fracture Assessment for patients with relevant risk factors. This additional view allows us to see if there are any compression fractures of the vertebraethese are sometimes not associated with pain or other symptoms, but indicate the presence of osteoporosis.
Our staff is dedicated to ensuring a pleasant scan experience. We are also happy to provide you with educational literature as you wait!
