Why Quillen
I could not be more thrilled to be a student at Quillen. I went to a small undergraduate university and knew most of the students and faculty – Quillen feels very similar. Everyone is extremely kind and helpful and will do anything to help you succeed.

I am also very happy with the size and safety of Johnson City, the proximity to hiking and biking trails, and the fact that I can visit home in Knoxville in about an hour and a half.

Being a Quillen student
I feel like I have known my classmates for much longer. We have similar interests and goals, so it was very easy to make friends and get together to study and to do fun things on the weekends. It really does feel like a family.

Life Outside the Classroom
Johnson City is a great place. There is always something going on downtown on the weekends, and the mountains and trails close by are fantastic. Also, there are tons of churches in the area which have helped get me out in to the community.

Prior Life
I played baseball in college and just liked being outside. After undergrad, I worked as a scribe and shadowed in the operating room for 2 years in Nashville. It was nice to be able to have some time off between undergrad and medical school to relax and learn some more about being in the medical field before coming back to school.

Words of Wisdom
Getting in to medical school is extremely hard. The doctor that I worked for told me that getting in to medical school is the hardest part of medical school. The point is – if you want to be a doctor, do not give up on it even if you are not accepted for first, second, third, or fourth try. Keep improving yourself and keep at it.
