Why Quillen
I chose Quillen after my interview with Dr. Blackwelder. Our conversation made me realize that QCOM’s mission aligned perfectly with my aspirations to eliminate health disparities and work with underserved populations. I truly believe that you can get a good education at any medical school, but Quillen equips you with the skills to be a great doctor. We learn empathy, professionalism, compassion and communication skills. I also chose Quillen because of the amazing opportunity to pursue my MD and MPH at the same time, and I’m very grateful for that!

Juggling School and Family
Juggling medical school and anything else can seem easier said than done but it’s possible and necessary. I am able to make time to see my friends and family back in Nashville by making a realistic schedule and being flexible when I need to.

Living Outside The Classroom
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy watching Netflix, working out, painting, writing poetry and reading. I have also taken advantage of the beautiful scenery in JC by going hiking more often. I love traveling, trying new types of food and photography. I also make time for naps and brunch, of course!

Prior Life
Growing up in Nigeria immensely contributed to the person I am today and the person I hope to become. I decided to pursue medicine because I felt distressed by the lack of knowledge and education to properly care for the ill in Nigeria. My passion for improving the lives of others led to a budding interest in medical and healthcare professions. Over the years, I have worked as a pharmacy technician, scribe, research assistant and a home health professional. My experiences with volunteering, service learning and mission trips inspired me to pursue an MD/MPH degree.. 

Words of Wisdom
I think wherever you go, it is important to find your “people.” Medical school becomes slightly easier when you have a great support system. It might be hard at first to balance school and knowing when to take a break, but it can be done! Also, imposter syndrome is real so try to remember that you worked hard to get here, and you deserve all of it. You’ve got this!
