Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Public Health, concentration in Health Care Administration
This is a professional degree appropriate for entry-level supervisory positions in
health care organizations and public health agencies. The health care industry is
the largest industry in our nation and is experiencing rapid employment growth. The
degree also prepares students for graduate training in public health, health administration
or other fields. Students completing the B.S. degree, a minor in management, and an
internship at a long-term care facility may take the Tennessee State Licensing Exam
for Nursing Home Administrator. Among BSPH graduates in 2011-2012, 92% reported satisfaction
with their education, and 96% were employed within 1 year of graduation (exceeding
the national threshold of 80%). The BSPH is nationally accredited by the Council on
Education for Public Health.
Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Health Services Administration
(offered fully on ground and fully online)
A master's degree is the standard for the majority of employment positions. This is
a professional degree preparing students for leadership positions in health management
and policy analysis. Master's graduates receive more rapid employment advancement.
The MPH Administration is available fully online or fully on-ground, and can be pursued
on a full-time or part-time basis. Among MPH graduates in 2011-2012, 96% reported
that their training was relevant to their job, and that the degree helped them achieve
their professional goals. Importantly, all (100%) were employed within 1 year of graduation
(exceeding the national threshold of 80%). The MPH is nationally accredited by the

Health Care Management (HCMC) Graduate Certificate
This is an online graduate inter-professional 18 credit hour (6-course) program focused
on leadership and strategic management in the health care environment. Students take
courses in health care organization and delivery, health care management, health care
law, strategic planning, and health care finance. Students can apply all 18 HCMC credit
hours towards the MPH degree upon admission into the MPH program.
Public Health Graduate Certificate
(offered fully on ground and fully online)
The Graduate Certificate in Public Health is a 15-credit hour program that provides
training in the foundations of public health, including health management and policy,
social and behavioral sciences, epidemiology, and environmental health. The program
facilitates professional skill development of working professionals while meeting
the public health training needs of students in graduate or professional degree programs.
The certificate is available on campus and fully online.
Doctor of Public Health in Health Management and Policy
The Doctor of Public Health (Dr.P.H.) program offers an advanced professional degree
designed to prepare graduates for leadership and practice positions within public
health and health systems, as well as for faculty positions in academic institutions.
It prepares practitioners with competence in administration, advocacy, problem solving,
research, and communication. Graduates are qualified to serve in a variety of leadership
capacities at state, national, and international levels, enhancing the public’s health
in both rural and urban settings.
