Mr. Patterson became a member of full-time faculty July 2017. Previously, he had taught as an adjunct faculty member at ETSU and other universities. He currently teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses. Mr. Patterson has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2003. He has practiced in many different areas including mental health with adults and children with particular focus on trauma, health care in hospitals and through home health, substance abuse treatment, and has provided services to clients and their families coping with effects of dementia. He has practiced in inpatient and outpatient settings including private practice. Prior receiving his MSSW, Mr. Patterson served in the U.S. Army for 26 years. During that time he lived and worked in Europe, Asia, Southwest Asia, Africa, and Central America. He earned a MA in Human Resources Management and has taught courses at the graduate level in that area. His areas of interest include the treatment of trauma, support for caregivers of those with long-term debilitating illness, the integration of spirituality in the provision of mental health services, and working with homeless populations.
