Slocumb Galleries displaying works by Greg Pond
JOHNSON CITY – “Greg Pond: From Static to Oscillatory (and Back Again)” is on display at East Tennessee State University’s Slocumb Galleries through Sept. 26.
Sewanee-based artist Greg Pond says he “employs technology, sound and mixed media
in his sculptural installations that encapsulates ‘history and cultures, altering
the pace of time and distorting physical scale’ to visualize psychological landscape
realism.”
Pond is a professor of art at the University of the South in Sewanee, where he teaches upper division courses in sculpture, intermedia and film/video production. He holds a B.A. degree from the University of the South and an M.F.A. from the University of Georgia.
The exhibit is sponsored by Slocumb Galleries and ETSU’s Department of Art and Design in partnership with the Tennessee Arts Commission’s Arts Project Support Grant and ETSU Student Activities Allocation Committee. It is curated by Vanessa Mayoraz, an assistant professor in the Department of Art and Design.
A closing reception for the exhibit will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5-7 p.m.
The Slocumb Galleries are located in Ball Hall, 232 Sherrod Drive, on the ETSU campus and are open weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., extended hours until 6 p.m. on Thursdays and during receptions, and by appointment. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
