For Amanda Robinette, East Tennessee State University isn’t just a place to earn a degree.
It’s a home filled with opportunities, friendships, and personal growth. As a first-year
graduate student in ETSU’s Speech-Language Pathology program, Amanda has embraced everything the university has to offer, from leadership roles
to experiences in studying abroad.
Originally from the region, Amanda chose ETSU for its location, size, and competitive
academic programs. What she didn’t expect was just how much ETSU would shape her life.
“I had no idea how much of an impact this school would have on me,” she said. “ETSU
has opened so many doors that I wouldn’t have found elsewhere. ETSU feels like home,
and the people in it feel like family.”
That sense of belonging is something Amanda has experienced firsthand. During her
time at ETSU, she has been involved in the Preview and Orientation Leader Organization,
Reformed University Fellowship, The Honors College and now the National Student Speech
Language Hearing Association as a graduate student.
“What I love most about the ETSU community is how welcoming, kind and encouraging
everyone is,” she said. “Since my first day here, I’ve felt at home.”

ETSU has also helped Amanda grow as a leader and explore new perspectives. Through her involvement in student organizations, she has traveled to conferences, met incoming students, and built lifelong friendships. One of the highlights of her ETSU experience was studying abroad in England and Paris, an opportunity that broadened her worldview and allowed her to experience different cultures.
Now, as she works toward her dream of becoming a speech-language pathologist, Amanda feels confident that ETSU is preparing her for success.
“My courses have inspired me and are helping me prepare for my future career,” she said. “I know ETSU’s program will give me the tools to succeed in this field.”
For prospective students who are considering ETSU, Amanda encourages them to look beyond just the degree.
“In addition to obtaining a degree, ETSU will give you countless opportunities to
grow as a person, a leader and a community member,” she said. “There is something
for everyone – organizations, campus events, study abroad, concerts, plays and so
much more.”
Amanda is most proud of the connections and experiences she has gained at ETSU. From
traveling out of state for conferences to welcoming new students as a Preview and
Orientation Leader, her time at ETSU has been filled with meaningful moments.
For students looking for a university that offers academic excellence, leadership
opportunities, and a strong sense of community, Amanda’s journey is proof that ETSU
can be home.
