Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in providing technical assistance and maintaining and preparing equipment and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Assists individuals with production problems in photography, typography, off-set and silk screen printing, photo development, enlargement and typesetting.

Checks functioning of equipment.

Prepares ink and water mixture for printing.

Prepares chemical solutions for photo processing.

Inventories and orders supplies as needed.

Checks out equipment to students.

May design and occasionally prints announcements of faculty exhibits.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of photography, typography, offset and silk screen printing.

Skill in operation of photographic, typographic, offset and silk screen printing equipment.

Skill in maintenance of photographic, typographic, offset and silk screen printing equipment.

Skill in preparing graphics.

Ability to visualize compatible combinations of color, texture and form.

Ability to work independently without close supervision.

Ability to explain procedures verbally and by demonstration.

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; three years experience in photography, typography, and/or printing, or equivalent training; experience in graphic production preferred.
