Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in managing operations in the Preparation Laboratory; assisting in preparing or overseeing the preparation of all fossils coming into the museum; recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers, students, and  other staff in the Preparation Laboratory; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in the preparation of all fossils.

Assists in the supervision of preparation of all fossils.

Recruits, supervises, and trains volunteers, students, and other staff in the laboratory.

Assists in the installation/de-installation of exhibits.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of fossil preparation.

Knowledge of fossil molding and casting.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the natural sciences, museum studies or related field; and two years experience preparing fossils.
