Billing and Collections Specialist

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in insurance and patient account management; and performing other related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Processes and posts insurance payments.
Processes and posts patient payments.
Manages patient accounts.
Answers telephone and person inquiries and/or routes to appropriate personnel.
Provides backup to Billing Coordinator.
Locates, files, and retrieves items.
Trains and supervises student workers.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of insurance and billing.
Knowledge of computers.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work independently.
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school; specialized training and/or experience in medical billing, insurance and collections.
