Learning Center Specialist

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in a variety of tasks involved in the administration of an off-campus learning center and performing related work as required. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains security for the learning center facility, ensuring that doors are locked and unlocked as necessary; and coordinates schedule for building security with Night Administrator.

Provides administrative support to the Field Services Director by providing budget requirements of the learning center, progress reports, coordinating center operations, serves as liaison to other college officials at various other locations, and maintains records of all center operations.

Performs secretarial and duplicating services for the learning center's professional staff.

Coordinates and administers learning center functions, such as registration and receiving fees, drop/add, explaining and receiving financial aid and related applications, selling books and supplies, providing some academic advising, distributing faculty mail and payroll checks, and performing related tasks.

Prepares daily cash report of funds collected at the learning center.

Provides information regarding the college, its functions, policies, and procedures, etc. over the telephone and in person to faculty, students and the public.

Performs related work as assigned. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of organizational rules, regulations, and procedures.

Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.

Ability to type accurately at an acceptable rate of speed.

Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.

Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.

Ability to communicate effectively and courteously.

Ability to perform arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed.

Ability to perform a variety of tasks independently.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, public and other employees. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in office work of an increasingly responsible nature and involving dealing with the public.
