Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in receiving and distributing mail, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Makes mail pickup and sorts letters and parcels.
Delivers mail to various destinations.
Places mail in post boxes.
Weighs parcels on scale and computes mailing cost based on weight and destination.
Answers questions pertaining to mail regulations and procedures.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of postal regulations and procedures.
Knowledge of how to stamp, register and weigh mail.
Ability to operate a postal scale.
Ability to lift light and heavy weights.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, the students and other employees.
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Possession of a valid Tennessee operator's license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
