Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in training to assist the Mail Service Machine Operator. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Learns to operate mail inserting machine, labeling machine, and electric folding machine.
Learns to perform preventive maintenance.
Performs duties of a Mail Clerk.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to read.
Ability to attend to details.
Skill in sorting written materials.
Ability to count.
Willingness to do simple tasks for long periods of time.
Ability to discriminate visually.
Knowledge of mailroom machinery.
Skill in operating mailroom machinery.
Skill in operation of common motor vehicles.
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; ability to perform the duties of a Mail Clerk which includes the ability to lift 70 lb. bags and operate a standard shift vehicle; valid driver's license required.
