Vanhook to speak at nursing conference in Istanbul

Patti Vanhook

JOHNSON CITY – (May 18, 2015) An East Tennessee State University administrator has been asked to speak at a conference next month that will take her across the Atlantic Ocean.

Dr. Patti Vanhook, associate dean of practice for the ETSU College of Nursing, will spend part of June in Istanbul, Turkey, speaking at the International Clinical Nursing Research Congress. The event is being held at the Koc Univeristy School of Nursing.

Vanhook’s presentation will focus on a publication she wrote in 2007 about the cost effectiveness of nursing care.

“It shows how nursing care does economically impact patient outcomes,” Vanhook said of her research. “I’m hoping conference attendees take away more about the value of nursing care and that nursing care is not just part of room-and-board at hospitals. Nursing care truly does make a difference.”

Vanhook was asked in February to be a speaker at the conference. While she has presented in other countries, including China, Vanhook said she has never been to Turkey.

“I’m pretty excited,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to have learning and sharing. And it is a great cultural opportunity.”
