HRSA GRANT OVERVIEW
ETSU College of Nursing has been funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) with a grant to train Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) over the next three years. We are providing training for both adult and pediatric forensic exams.
There is no cost to the participants in our programs. ETSU’s program has provided education for nurses and nurse practitioners serving our rural counties in North East Tennessee and RNs working for Ballad Health. Our program is available by remote classroom and taught by the certified SANE nurses from Forensic Consultants, Inc. associated with UTK and Helen Ross McNabb Centers.
This project has been established with the following intended Mission in mind:
To provide advanced nurse education to increase the number of or Registered Nurse (RNs), Advance Practice (APRNs) and Forensic Nurses who are trained and certified as sexual assault nurse examiners (SANE) in rural and underserved populations in Northeast Tennessee. HELP SARA shall increase access points for adult, adolescent and pediatric sexual assault victims, and also desires to transform sexual assault trauma informed care, improve quality of evidence collection, increase sexual assault reporting, prosecution and victim support.
