What brought you to Gatton? When I was looking for pharmacy schools, I originally thought I wanted to go to a large university similar to my undergraduate experience. However, as soon as I came to Gatton I knew this is where I wanted to be, as my interview day was something I had never experienced before. To this day I can still recall interacting with the Dean and faculty members and just feeling like this would be a comfortable, safe, and fun place to learn a thing or two about drugs. Coming back for residency was a no-brainer, and I am very glad to be back.
What was a defining moment for you here? Maybe it was a lesson you learned from a faculty member, or something you learned from a patient experience? It is hard for me to pin-point just one defining moment from my residency year. Truthfully, I feel each rotation and preceptor has provided a culmination of defining moments and lessons learned. However, one of the many highlights of my year has been precepting students and feeling like I have a front seat in witnessing and participating in their professional growth and development. In many ways this has changed me and turned me into a better pharmacist.
Why is residency experience important for future pharmacists?Residency has been the best professional decision I have ever made. I have learned more in two years than I could’ve ever imagined, met incredible coresidents/cofellows and coworkers who will be life-long friends and have much more confidence in my abilities to be an effective preceptor and clinician.
