Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure Program

The Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure program is a unique outdoor experience for new freshman at East Tennessee State University. The scenic Appalachian Mountains, as well as ETSU's campus, will be explored via fun outdoor activities led by Campus Recreation staff.  The BOA mission is to provide first year freshman a unique transitional experience into the university setting, with the opportunity to develop friendships, leadership skills and an appreciation for outdoor recreation and Leave No Trace ethics.  The objectives of the BOA program are to help students gain confidence, build relationships, explore the East Tennessee geographic region while engaging in outdoor activities, and establish a special connection to ETSU.

In addition to meeting new students and making connections prior to the beginning of the school year, program participants will have an opportunity for self-discovery, leadership development, and exploration of the great outdoors.  All BOA participants are eligible to take ETSU 1020, a first year seminar course, called “Foundations of Success” in the fall semester. The course helps students gain knowledge and skills essential for success.  There will be 3 BOA trip dates offered, see below.
