CFAA - Tutoring
CFAA - Learning Services
The CFAA will conduct online tutoring for summer 2020. Tutoring for nursing courses will begin May 26th. Tutoring for writing, math, and science will begin June 8th. Visit our Online Help page for more information.
The Center for Academic Achievement (CFAA) at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is home to Learning Services (Tutoring & Supplemental Instruction) and Testing Services. In 2010, three academic support programs—the Math Lab, the Writing and Communication Center (Writing Lab), and University Tutoring Services—were merged into one centralized tutoring operation -- Learning Services -- located on the first floor of the Charles C. Sherrod Library.
Tutoring can help you learn about a subject in new ways and from different perspectives. CFAA tutors are committed to helping students discover the path to learning that is best for them. Our ultimate goal is to help you become the most successful, resourceful, and self-directed learner you can be. Our center is certified by the College Reading & Learning Association's International Tutor Training Program, so you can rest assured that your tutor will be thoroughly trained, knowledgeable, and prepared to help.
What subjects do you tutor?
Whether you are writing a paper or working on math homework, completing a chemistry lab or learning Spanish verbs, our tutors can help. We offer by-appointment, one-on-one tutoring for most 1000 or 2000 level courses, and many upper-level courses. If we don't have someone on staff that can tutor your subject, we will connect you with additional resources, both free and paid, for help.
How do I get help?
Tutoring in the CFAA is FREE to all ETSU students. All you need to do is create an account in our system and schedule an appointment using "Register" link under Individual Tutoring in the left-hand menu. Registered students have access to our online schedule, searchable by course or subject, and can make appointments up to two weeks in advance, with the only limit being one session per subject per day.
Who are your tutors?
Our staff is made up of undergraduate, graduate, and professional tutors, as well as faculty volunteers, from a variety of majors and backgrounds. Our tutors have earned a B+ or better in the courses they help with, have been recommended by faculty, and participate in extensive tutoring training as well as ongoing professional development in their disciplines.
Can I get help online?
Online tutoring is available for all subjects supported in the CFAA. Check out the "Online Help" page for more information.
