Does ETSU have housing policies in place for Transgender or Gender-Nonconforming students?
We do not currently have specific policies in place, however we work with students on a case-by-case basis to accommodate their housing needs.

How can I change my name to reflect my preferred name on campus records? Where will my preferred name be reflected?
To change your preferred name use the Preferred Display Name Change Request Form.
Your preferred display name will be displayed in the following systems and processes. Other systems and processes may use your preferred display name in the future.
- People Search (student and employee search on ETSU website)
- Employee phone display name (internal only)
- D2L
- Course search and student schedules (instructor name)
- Class lists (roster of students enrolled in courses)
- Grade reports
- Attendance reports
After your preferred name change request is finalized, you may also have your name change reflected on your ID card. Please visit ID Services to request a new ID card that reflects your name change. You must present your most recent and valid ID card to exchange for your new ID card.

Do I have to provide medical documentation to change my preferred name and pronoun with the University?
Preferred display name changes do not require any documentation. All you need to do is to complete the Preferred Display Name Change Request Form and submit it. -

Are there counselors on campus that know about transgender issues?
There is a Support Group called ASPECTS (Aligning Support, Pride, Education and Community for Transgender Students) that meets in the fall and spring semesters and is open to any currently enrolled ETSU student who identifies as transgender, non-binary, gender fluid, gender non-conforming, or questioning. It is asked that you do not publish where exactly that the group meets to respect the privacy of group members. Those who are interested in the ASPECTS Support Group can call or email the Counseling Center for more information.

Does the ETSU provide all gender facilities (i.e.: family or gender neutral rest rooms)?
ETSU does have gender neutral facilities. A list can be found under Campus Resources.

Does ETSU have scholarships specifically for LGBTQ+ students?
Scholarships are open for all students. As a general practice we adhere to the assigned criteria for each scholarship when making awards. None of the criteria concern sexual orientation or gender identity. None of the questions on the scholarship application ask about gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Does the ETSU Non-discrimination policy protect students from discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression?
All students should report any incidents of bias, discrimination, or harassment to a University official. If it relates to their housing situation, they can report it to their hall staff or housing director. If they are uncomfortable doing that, then they should report it directly to Public Safety or the Student Affairs Office. It is of utmost importance that the student report it to a University official with whom they feel comfortable with and trust.

Yes, S.A.G.A. (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) is the LGBTQ+ Student Organization on campus. Email the Robertson Pride Center (pridecenter@etsu.edu) for more information on how to get involved!

Are there trans*/intersex specific student organizations on campus, and what are some ways I can get involved?
S.A.G.A.(Sexuality and Gender Alliance), the student organization, covers all areas of the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

What activities are sponsored on campus for LGBTQ+ students?
The Pride Center hosts events throughout the semester. Events are free to all ETSU students, faculty and staff, unless otherwise noted. Please check our Events page often to see a list of activities and events sponsored by the Robertson Pride Center.

Do you have to identify as LGBTQ+ to be involved with LGBTQ+ programming and events?
You do not have to Identify as LGBTQ+ to be involved with programming and events. Please see Allies section of Resources to read about how to be an ally.

Does the ETSU Non-discrimination policy protect students from discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression?
Yes. The Office of Equity and Inclusion monitors the University's policy on equal opportunity and affirmative action in employment and education to ensure that educational and employment opportunities are available to all eligible persons without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, disabilities, veteran status or sexual orientation/gender identity.

Is there a procedure for reporting LGBTQ+ related bias or discrimination incidents? How does the University respond to such incidents?
Yes, any discrimination associated with someone’s status or identity as LGBTQ+ should be reported to the Office of Equity and Inclusion on the the 2nd floor of Burgin E. Dossett Hall.
