Quest for Success FAQ

What is QUEST?

  • ETSUs QUEST for Success is a college transition program which begins in August, the week before classes begin. The program is designed to help historically underrepresented students become acclimated to campus life while building a network of friends, faculty, and staff to assist them through their college journey while at ETSU.

What to expect in QUEST?

  • The QUEST for Success participants will gain insight on campus life and become familiar with our academic support services. The program also provides students with an opportunity to connect with current students, meet new ones, faculty and staff. We will have academic workshops for students to attend, along with some fun activities.

What is the Purpose of QUEST?

  • To serve as support for underrepresented students by establishing a campus network
  • To ease the transition from high school to college
  • To aid in the retention of underrepresented students
  • To promote social, emotional, and academic success of all students, particularly underrepresented students
  • To provide support, guidance and general assistance to first year students

When can a student sign-up for QUEST?

  • Depending on the students information noted on their Admissions Application, some students will qualify to participate in the program and receive an application in their Orientation folder. There will be extra applications at the Quest Table during checkout at Orientation.
  • Students can also go to and get the application online, or they can email . You will be able to apply and submit an application online, however, you will have to pay online with a credit card.  

How much does it cost participate in QUEST?

  • The Quest Program is $50. This will cover the cost for both Quest and Preview. Students must sign up for Quest first, and then we will sign you up for Preview. 

When are the dates for QUEST?

  • Quest will start Wednesday, August 22nd and will end on Thursday, August 23th.  Preview will be from Thursday, August 23rd to Saturday, August 25th.  

Is Quest only for minority students?

  • No. The program is for all underrepresented students. This includes:

Students from all minority groups
First Generation Students
Pell-Eligible Students

Do I have to live on campus?

  • We encourage students to live on campus. However, if the student plans to live off campus they need to email us at

I only want to attend Preview, can I still sign up for Quest so I can move in early?

  • No, you are STRONGLY encouraged and REQUIRED to participate in both programs if you sign up for QUEST. If you do not participate in Quest, you can sign up for only Preview, which starts on Thursday. 

I only want to attend Quest, do I have to attend Preview?

  • YES, you are STRONGLY encouraged to participate all events for both programs.

How does Quest differ from Preview?

  • The Quest for Success Program:

    • Is a yearlong program
    • You are placed in groups by your major
    • It is a smaller group of students
    • You have academic sessions and workshops

Who will be my Quest Leader?

  • Your quest leader will be an upper-class student who has a similar major to you. They will be there during the week of Quest and throughout the semester to get you situated with the campus, be a mentor, as well as a friend. Your quest leader will be your personal guide through your freshman year of college. Don't be afraid to ask them for anything!
