Tennessee Intervention for Pregnant Smokers

East Tennessee State University

Funding & Sponsors

Funding of over $1.2 million for the current project was awarded by Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen's Office of Children's Care Coordination in January of 2007 and will continue through 2012.  Click on the AP photo below for media coverage about the TIPS  grant.

The program is being implemented in several pilot sites in the northeast Tennessee region. Upon evaluation, if the program is found to be successful, it is anticipated that programs like TIPS will be put in practice statewide.

In addition to the financial support from the Governor's office, we have also received support or assistance from the following organizations:

  • The March of Dimes
  • East Tennessee State University
  • Mountain States Health Alliance
  • Wellmont Health System
  • The Northeast Tennessee Regional Perinatal Center
  • The Tennessee Department of Health, including the Northeast Tennessee Regional Health Office and the Sullivan County Health Department
