Getting Involved

If you are a provider in one of our six service counties:

and you are interested in TIPS, contact us!  We want to get you involved!

You could be involved in one or more of the following ways:

  • TIPS can provide you with educational materials and resource information. We have self-help manuals, pamphlets, resource lists and flyers you can give to your patients. Below is a list of posters we have for your office:

  • Help us collect important pregnancy smoking-related health information. We are collecting anonymous data from patient medical records to look at smoking rates and factors that affect pregnancy smoking and cessation. We have ETSU IRB approval to collect this protected health information, and will share with you findings related to your patients. These findings may help to inform the way you practice.
  • Receive training in counseling women about pregnancy smoking. TIPS staff will come to your office to provide a training session for physicians and/or nurses. Physicians can receive CME credit, and when counseling is provided to patients it can be reimbursed by TennCare and other insurers.

Even if you don't practice in our region, there are a number of resources available to you that will help you incorporate a more effective smoking cessation intervention into your practice.  Feel free to peruse the materials in our 5 A's Intervention section and contact us if you have questions!
