Welcome to Art!
The Mary B. Martin School of the Arts Volunteer Appreciation Celebration was held on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017. Ms. Ellen Pitts, University School Art Instructor, with students in Kindergarten, First, Second, and Eighth grades provided works of art which represented various artists and art eras of the past.
During class, students enjoyed learning about such topics as prehistoric art and Roman and Greek mosaic work from those cultures that lived long ago. From the modern period, they incorporated Kandinsky circles.
Students in eighth grade were given a reproduction of a famous art work to render in colored pencil, trying to match the original as best they could. In addition to the art work, the students learned about art history, individual artists and some of the methods and styles these artists used in their work.
A big thank you to Ms. Pitts and all of the students for providing the party favors and decor for the event!
