Nominations for Mr. Erwin from the current UH faculty remarked as follows:

Tim Erwin has been instrumental in serving the school and working with the 1-1 roll out. He is always working with faculty and staff to help them solve technology issues. He has promoted the use of technology in our school for years and has worked tireless to incorporate programs into our school as well as maintaining and cultivating a relationship with the ETSU/OT Technology staff.

Mr. Erwin is a proud alumni of the East Tennessee State University College of Business and Technology Department of Computing, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree.  He taught technology in the Unicoi County school system for 13 years.  After receiving a Masters of Arts in Education, he came to University School in 1997 as Technology Coordinator and Instructor.  He has taught at the High School level at UH for 23 years while also fulfilling his responsibilities as Building Technology Coordinator.

Mr. Erwin currently teaches four technology courses.  The Technology I course teaches students the fundamentals of technology, broken up into four sections:  1:  Introduction to Microsoft Office products.  2:  Programming using the language LiveCode.  3 & 4:  Combination of computer graphics and computer aided design using the 3-D printer.  The second course is a semester course of computer graphics.  The third course is Pre-AP Computer Science which builds problem solving skills, utilizing programming tools such as Jeroo and introduction to JAVA programming.  This course also includes an exploration of Arduino language and circuit board programming.   The fourth course is AP Computer Science, advanced placement curriculum which focuses on an intense study of the language JAVA.

Tim loves teaching students, and expends a great deal of effort to keep our University School students on the leading edge of technology in the programming industry.  He has adjusted his curriculum year after year as the technology has evolved.  Many students have made return visits to our school and expressed how well prepared they were when entering college and then becoming employed in various technology related positions.  Mr. Erwin's teaching philosophy is, "All students can learn;  when a teacher is willing to adjust their teaching methods to fit the learning style of the student, then a student can be successful."

As Building Technology Coordinator, Tim works with the ETSU Office of Technology, installing hardware, software, and networking updates to keep our school in compliance with current university and industry standards of technology.

Thank you, Mr. Erwin, for all that you do for our students and our staff.  We are very proud to have you as a Buc!
