Claudia H. Byrd serves as the Director of the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. Speedway Children's Charities was founded in 1984 by O. Bruton Smith, CEO and Chairman of Speedway Motorsports, Inc.In her role as Director of Speedway Children's Charities, Claudia coordinates the activities of the local Board of Trustees and manages many of the activities used to raise funds for the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.
Speedway in Lights, a holiday light spectacular, held annually at Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway, the Sharpie 500 Golf Tournament to benefit Speedway Children's Charities and the Eastman Motorsports Club Auction, held each August to benefit Speedway Children's Charities. The proceeds from these activities, along with individual and corporate contributions, are awarded each November to worthwhile children's-based non-profit agencies in northwest Tennessee and Southwest Virginia . Under Claudia's leadership, the Bristol chapter of Speedway Children's Charities has distributed more than $2 million since its inception in 1997. One hundred percent of the funds raised are contributed to these organizations.
In addition to her work with Speedway Children's Charities, Claudia is involved in many civic organizations. She is a past president of the Children's Advocacy Center of Sullivan County and The Paramount Theatre, serves on school foundation boards in both Bristol , Tenn. , and Kingsport , Tenn. , and is President Elect of the board of directors of the Rotary Club of Kingsport, Tenn. She is an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport , Tenn.
Claudia attended Wake Forest University and is married to Jeff Byrd, the general manger of Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway. They are the parents of Belton Caldwell of Jonesborough , Tenn. , and Christian Byrd of Charlotte, NC. They are the very proud grandparents of Ashton Rea Byrd and Weston Gabriel Byrd.
