Dr. Dykes holds two degrees from ETSU -- a B.S. degree (cum laude) in 1952 and an M.A. degree in 1956. He received his doctorate from the University of Tennessee in 1959. He began his professional career in education as a coach at Church Hill School. He has been a school principal, superintendent of Greeneville City Schools, and Chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Martin. Dr. Dykes was director and professor of the Center for Graduate Study in Education operated by the University of Tennessee and Memphis State University on the Memphis State campus from 1962-65. During the 1966-67 school year, he was an American Council on Education Fellow at the University of Illinois. He is the author of several books and has written numerous articles.
