J.D. Lee is considered one of the most successful and outstanding trial lawyers in Tennessee and the nation. In his senior year at ETSU he served as president of the student body. He has consistently distinguished himself in the areas of judicial reform and improvement of legal services at county, state, and national levels. He has served as Clerk and Master of Monroe Chancery Court, secretary of the Tennessee Conservation Commission, delegate to the Democratic National Convention, and in 1972, he was elected President of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, an organization consisting of over 50,000 practicing attorneys. He has written numerous articles for legal journals and has lectured at law schools and seminars in 26 states on trial techniques.
