Ms. Terango, a West Virginia native, began her teaching career in the Kent (Ohio) City Schools in 1961 and taught at several other schools in Ohio, Wyoming, and North Carolina as well as Johnson City's Towne Acres. She was selected from 566 applicants in 1990 by the National Endowment for the Humanities to be Kentucky's NEH/Reader's Digest Teacher-Scholar. Only one teacher is chosen from each state, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. The award allows recipients to undertake a full academic year of independent study in history, literature, foreign languages or other humanities disciplines. Her videotape, "The Trial of Peter Rabbit," has been used as a teaching aid by schools across the nation.
