J. Lane Latimer, III

Lane Latimer is the former owner of Oak Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery in Kingsport, Tennessee. He continues his years of service to the industry as Oak Hill's general manager. He was born in Washington D.C., but has lived most of his life in Kingsport.
He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1955 and earned his bachelor of arts degree at the University of Alabama in 1959. Early in his career, he was a stockbroker in Kingsport and Orlando, Florida. In 1970, Latimer came into the cemetery business at Oak Hill in Kingsport and grew into one of the industry's leaders. He has served as president of the Cemetery Association of Tennessee, the Southern Cemetery Association, and the American Cemetery Mortuary Council. He also served three different terms on the American Cemetery Association's Board of Directors. He was one of the first cemeterians to receive the American Cemetery Association's "Certified Cemetery Executive" honor.
His civic work included being president of the American Cancer Association, the Civitan Club of Kingsport, and the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce. He has been on the Board of Directors of Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, the Kingsport Chamber Foundation, and is still on the Board of Directors of Bank of Tennessee. He is also a past chairman of the Kingsport Arts Advisory Council.
Latimer continues to serve on the ETSU Foundation Board of Directors on its finance committee. He is the past chairman of ETSU/UTat Kingsport's Advisory Panel.
Latimer and his wife Sherry live in Kingsport and are members of First Baptist Church. Their son J. Lane Latimer, IV graduated from ETSU in 1990.
