2012 Winners of the ETSU Alumni Classic
JOHNSON CITY- The 46th annual ETSU Alumni Golf Classic was held at Cattails Golf Course at MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport on Friday, September 21, 2012.
Nearly 100 alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students participated in the two person select shot tournament held by the ETSU National Alumni Association. Golfers chose from one of eight divisions: the Gold Division for players with a handicap of 10 and under; the Blue Division for those with a handicap of 11-20; the White Division for players with a handicap of 21 or more; Faculty/Staff; Women; Greeks; Seniors; and Co-ed (male/female).
The champions of the Gold Flight were Jeff Blake and Brian Greenway who won with a score of 61 after a scorecard playoff. Todd Davis and Danny Jones came in second also with a score of 61. In the Blue Division, Matt McGahey and Shawn Stewart won with a score of 62. Shooting a 67, David Humphries and Brad Knoll were the runners-up. The White Division crowned Kenny Hawkins and Chris McIntosh the champions following a scorecard playoff with a score of 72. Dan Ledford and Jeff Williams were second also claiming a score of 72.
In the Women's Division, Carole Fuller and Marilyn Martin won with a score of 61. Jenny Brock and Marilyn Wolcott shot a 70 to claim second place. In the ETSU Faculty and Staff Division, first place winners were Larry Smith and Bill Toohey who won with a score of 72. With a score of 76, Michael Ramsey and Janna Scarborough were runners-up.
Winning the Co-Ed Division were Bill King and Karen King with a score of 70. John Franko and Carolyn Sliger came in second, scoring a 71. The Senior Division champions were Ed Gibbons and Rick Storey, who won with a score of 63. Rob Ackerman and Mike McMeans shot a 64 to take second place. In the Greek Division, Ashley Calvert and Jack Smith of Sigma Chi won with a score of 67. Steve Jones and Tim Way, also of Sigma Chi, were the runners-up with a score of 71.
Other tournament contest winners include Danny Jones, who won the Men's Longest Drive challenge, and John Sturgill, who won the Men's Closest to the Pin competition. Carole Fuller won the Longest Drive with Sharon Squibb winning the Closest to the Pin in the Women's competitions.
