The Applied Psychology Laboratory (APL) at East Tennessee State University is a research organization dedicated to alleviating real-world problems and enhancing quality of life through the application of sound scientific principles.

APL has as its mission the following: a) to help undergraduate and graduate students learn how to conduct rigorous psychological research, b) to give students hands-on research experience, ranging from design issues to documenting findings for professional audiences, c) to foster interest in applied research projects that aim to make improvements in people’s lives and/or the environment, d) to give students opportunities to participate in professional activities and take leadership roles, e) improve quality of life in the local, regional, national, and world communities, and f) to teach and demonstrate the value of actively caring.
