Art on the Campus Grounds
Post Office Mural
From 1934-1943, the Treasury Department's Section of Fine Art employed artists to decorate newly constructed federal buildings. Unlike other New Deal agencies that provided relief programs, the Section awarded mural contracts based upon national and regional art competitions. Now located on the first floor of the Sherrod Library, Wendell Jones' mural, Farmer Family, once adorned the Johnson City Post Office. Jones (1899-1956) was born in Galena, Kansas, and he was a well-known landscape painter and muralist. From 1948 until his death, he taught at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Outdoor Sculpture
Permanent and temporary installations of sculpture may be found on the campus grounds. Click here to learn more about some of the sculpture.
