Hosted by East Tennessee State University on the 11 and 12 of October, 2002

The Department of History at East Tennessee State University is pleased to host the Tennessee Conference of Historians during the Fall 2002 semester. The meeting, October 11-12, will come at the height of the usual "fall color" season in east Tennessee.

We are excited about the plans made thus far and sincerely invite all our colleagues in Tennessee (and elsewhere) to join us for what promises to be an enjoyable and intellectually stimulating meeting. We seek widespread participation in the Conference.

The Conference theme will be "Tennessee and World History. "This is intended to be as broad a topic as possible, while at the same time encouraging thinking about Tennessee's place in world history as well as how world history (and the teaching of world history) has had an impact on Tennessee. Keynote speaker for the Saturday, 12 October, luncheon will be historian:

Jerry Bentley

From the University of Hawai'i and he co-authored, with Herbert Zeigler, Traditions & Encounters: A Global Perspective on the Past.  Professor Bentley is also a BA graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The Conference organizers are grateful to McGraw-Hill Higher Education publishers for supporting Professor Bentley's attendance at the Conference.

The Conference registration fee will be $15.00 and will include a Friday evening reception and the Saturday luncheon. A block of rooms (at state rates) for the those traveling to Johnson City have been reserved at the nearby
