ETSU Brass Students Perform With Symphony of the Mountains
On Sunday, January 22nd, 2012, a select group of ETSU Brass Students, under the direction of Jimmie Self, joined with Kingsport's Symphony of the Mountains in their "Blast of Brass" performance. The student group was featured on the program as well as joining the Symphony of the Mountains brass sections - inluding ETSU's Jimmie Self and Jeffery Whaley - for several large brass ensemble works. The students were Brandon Linkous, Ethan Tate, Akasha McReynolds, Reilly Fox, Anthony Holley, and Dustin Yarber.

Recent Graduates Become Music Educators
Congratulations to Andrew Richmond (Bluff City Middle School), Kenneth Carrico (Sullivan South High School), Brandon Woods (Cloudland High School), Brandon Guffey (Abington) Bradley Fore (Sullivan County), and Justin Conway (Elizabethton). We know you will make wonderful teachers as you pass on your knowledge and love of music.

Congratulations to Dr. Maria Niederberger

Dr. Maria Niederbeger’s composition “Mountain Visions” for solo violin, a "story" about Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport, TN, was selected for the International (IAWM) Congress at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ (Sept. 15 to 18, 2011). Her piece will receive a performance on September 15, 2011 with renown German violinist René Kubelik featuring as soloist.

$1100 Raised for Tsunami Relief

On April 9, 2011, flute students in the ETSU Suzuki Studies Program raised $1100 for earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan.
ETSU Graduate Publishes Flute Quartet

ETSU music alumnus Kelly Drouillard (graduated in 2010) published her flute quartet entitled "Emerald Hills and Sapphire Sea" with Flute World Co. She has written this work during her composition studies with Dr. Maria A. Niederberger at ETSU Music.

Award Given to ETSU Music Faculty

ETSU French horn instructor Jeffery Whaley was recently awarded the College of Arts and Sciences' "Non-Regular Faculty Award" for the 2010-2011 Academic Year. Jeffery was also recently appointed appointed Principal Horn of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra after lengthy international audition process.

Dr. Benjamin Caton Named President of MTNA

The ETSU Department of Music is proud to announce that Music Department Professor Dr. Benjamin Caton is now the President of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). The Music Teachers National Association was founded in 1876 to advance the value of music study and music making to society and to support the professionalism of music teachers. Membership includes 24,000 independent and collegiate music teachers in all fifty states.
