The Encyclopedia of Appalachia

Contents

The handsome, hardbound Encyclopedia of Appalachia opens with a comprehensive introduction written by the executive editors, followed by five major divisions: Land, People, Economies, Traditions, and Institutions.

Dispersed under the five divisions are 34 topic sections, each edited by a recognized scholar or scholars in the field. Each section includes an introduction followed by some 75 entries, ranging in length from 250 to 2,500 words. Several hundred authors from across the country contributed.

The Encyclopedia of Appalachia features approximately 250 black-and-white photographs. The entire work is indexed and cross-referenced for easy use.
