Tennessee
requires college recommendation and verification for most areas
of PreK-12 teaching and school service
licensure. Most
licensure areas require qualifying scores on specified Praxis
Series examinations. The Praxis Series is a division of the
Educational Testing Service (ETS). Special Designated
Institution Score Reports (DISR's) are needed for official
verification. Examinees must instruct ETS to send a DISR to East
Tennessee State University, College of Education Recipient Code 1198. We suggest
that candidates seeking
Tennessee licensure also designate score reports be sent to
Recipient Code 8190--Tennessee Dept. of Education.
Following are web links to forms and applications and other
information regarding school licensure and endorsement:
Access Tennessee's current Praxis test requirements at the
following web site:

Test requirements are subject to frequent revisions by the
Tennessee Department of Education and we caution students to
check for current requirements when registering for the tests
and check back for possible revisions just before their
scheduled test date. Required tests are often different than
stated in the published Praxis Series Registration Bulletin. Our
office strives to keep up with these revisions and has special
information packets for our students. Please visit Education
Student Services in Room 321 Warf-Pickel Bldg. and ask for
Praxis II Information.

Add-on Endorsement Programs at East Tennessee State University
ETSU offers many "add-on" programs for teachers who hold valid Tennessee teaching licenses and wish to add additional teaching fields. Please be advised, add-on programs are subject to revisions. Teachers should check with the certification officer in the College of Education before enrolling in an add-on program. In some cases, previous coursework or teaching experience may be accepted in lieu of some of the specified courses.
